About JoAnn

I have always been interested in health and wellness. I started my career 38 years ago as an RN working in the fields of Emergency Medicine and School Nursing. In 1999, I expanded into holistic wellness and became the program coordinator for a center called Where Mind and Body Meet. It wasnʼt until 2011, when I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and a connective tissue auto immune disease that I discovered the powerful gift of Reiki. With the practice of self Reiki I began to notice significant changes in my mind, body, and spirit that greatly minimized my fibromyalgia and auto immune symptoms. After experiencing the healing properties of Reiki first hand, I was amazed by what it had done for me and was anxious to learn more so that I could share this gift with others.

I began to further study Reiki. In 2012, I received the Master Reiki and Master Seichem initiations from the Tera-Mai branch of Reiki. A year later, I began to explore the traditional Japanese system of Reiki called Usui Reiki Ryoho. I connected very strongly to this system and went on to complete the Shoden, Okuden, and Shinpiden levels. This is the system of Reiki that I currently practice and teach. I continue to study under Frans Stiene, co- founder of the International House of Reiki.

In 2013, I opened my own private practice, Reiki From The Heart, which is where I perform Reiki treatments and teach Usui Reiki Ryoho Levels I and II. Currently, I provide Reiki services for hospice patients as a part time employee of Caring Hospice Services and volunteer as a Reiki practitioner monthly at the Lancaster Community Reiki Clinic.

In addition to my Reiki practice, I have been practicing meditation for the past seventeen years and have studied meditation with Dr. Susan Taylor at the Center for Meditation Science. Meditation has become a daily routine in my life for the past three years and I plan to extend my knowledge of this to others as well. I am a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the national society of nursing, the American Holistic Nurses Association, and a student of A Course of Miracles and The Science of Mind.

Reiki and meditation have been a powerful shifting force in my life. I am excited to share them with all who wish to heal, expand, discover, and grow.

About the Logo

Original Logo.png

The logo for Reiki from the Heart was created from an original drawing from my son, Phil, when he was 8 years old. Phil named it “Wild Hearts” when he brought it home from school and presented it to me. I had “Wild Hearts” framed and hung on the wall in my meditation room. Whenever I looked at “Wild Hearts” I always felt love, energy, forward motion, and manifestation.
Fast forward twenty years when I decided to begin sharing Reiki professionally. I really wanted to capture the unconditional loving energy that I always feel when I gave a Reiki treatment. Reiki from the Heart was created from this intention. When it came to choosing a logo to accompany the business name, “Wild Hearts” caught my attention. The two hearts occupying one space with a bolt of heavenly energy above was the perfect illustration of what Reiki means to me! Sharing Reiki is a sacred moment where two hearts/souls standing together in a space of Oneness, receive love, energy, guidance, direction, and support from a Higher Source of Power. Our bodies are our connection to this infinite supply of loving energy that is present in the universe. Reiki is the practice that integrates it all together.
